Pathology

Pathology is the study of the origin and cause of disease. In this case, the pathology of the mouth can be studied and analyzed through various procedures done by Dr. Younce.

-

Here at our office we perform biopsies of bone and soft tissue in order to identify any disease afflicting the mouth. A biopsy is the removal of suspect tissue from the mouth in order that it can be examined for a diagnosis.

-

In addition to biopsies, Dr. Younce is highly skilled in tumor and cyst management. The most common cause for tumors or cysts in the mouth is impacted wisdom teeth. Teeth that have not completely erupted from the gums can cause a pouch of tissue or fluid to form. These need to be drained in order to solve the problem. One way of prevention is to have dental extractions on wisdom teeth before they create problems in the mouth.

-

Dr. Younce also works to fight oral and facial infections. These infections can typically be treated with antibiotics. However, in sever cases it may be necessary to remove the source of the infection by creating an incision to allow for drainage.

-

Finally, mucosal disorders and salivary gland diseases are monitored and treated under the care of Dr. Younce.
